MINUTES OF
2000 ANNUAL MEETING
May 23,2000
VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA

The meeting was called to order 12:02 PM. The President requested a moment of silence in memory of deceased members Harry Wade, Art Davies and C. S. Mullen. Cheri Hainer, President of VBOCA / Building Official-Virginia Beach; Ben Roy, NFPA Regional Representative and Ed Altizer, State Fire Marshal were recognized as honored guest. VFPA Board members Gene Wills,Carl Maurice,Grover Smiley,Robin Preece,Gary Huffman and Howard Summers were introduced

PRESIDENT’S AWARD
Elaine Gall,FPE, was the recipient of the Award. President Mitchell noted Elaine’s outstanding service to VFPA and the Commonwealth of Virginia through her activities in code development and training. The award was tickets for a dinner cruise on Smith Mountain Lake.

SECRETARY/TREASURERS REPORT
The minutes of the 1999 Annual Meeting were accepted as read.
The treasurer reported that the Association owns two CDs valued at 1) $6130.49 and 2) $ 10,502.91. The checking account balance was $ 17,976.48. The report was accepted.

OLD BUSINESS
he concept for Regional one to one and a half day seminars was discussed. The success of the Roanoke seminar was reported by Gary Huffman.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR 1999-2000
The nominating committee composed of Grover Smiley, Chairman, Dave Diamantes and Robin Preece presented the following recommendations :
President-Gene Wills
1st Vice President Carl Maurice
2nd Vice President Gary Huffman
Sec./Treas. Howard Summers, Jr.
Delegates-at-Large: John Tunstall and Jeff Flippo
The report of the nominating committee was accepted.
There were no nominations from the floor and the proposed slate was elected.

NEW BUSINESS
There was discussion regarding the location for the Spring 2001 meeting. A motion was made and seconded that the meeting place would be selected by the Board of Directors. Motion passed.
It was noted that Grover Smiley; and Dave Diamantes were retiring.

President Elect Wills thanked the members for their confidence in his ability to serve the Association as President. Mr. Wills then recognized the accomplishments of Jan Mitchell during her terms as President and presented her with a plaque commemorating her years as President.

Carl Maurice , on behalf of the Association, expressed our appreciation to Robin Preece for his efforts in planning and arranging the Spring 2000 Annual Meeting and Seminar.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 1:101 PM.
