Approximately 90 VFPA members were in attendance.

The meeting was called to order by President Huffman at 1215 hours in the banquet room of the Quality Inn Oceanfront where the VFPA annual spring meeting and conference is being held on May 23 – 25, 2004.

President Huffman welcomed the membership and introduced the Board of Directors members.

Corporate registration renewed with the State Corporation Commission.

Apple laptop sold on eBay for $630

Purchases two new Dell laptops and laser printers for the Sec/Treas and IT committee chairman.

The annual Howard H. Summers, Jr. Scholarship Award in the amount of $500 for last year was sent to Megan E. Moore at Virginia Tech and Jennifer Boylan at Marymount University.

VFPA contributed $200 to the Captain II Will Seng Memorial Fund (Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department). The VFPA received a thank you card from Mrs. Seng.

Training committee report Dan Rakes:

Copies of VFPA training class certificates to be send to DFP.

Announced VFPA 2004 Fall Conference to be held in Manassas in Northern Virginia. The guest speaker will be Deputy Chief Vincent Dunn (FDNY-retired)

Legislative committee report Jeff Flippo:

Discussion on Bill #1482 Christmas tree SFPC regulations was changed by the legislature to allow in certain use groups.

IT committee report J.D. Mitchell:

New VFPA website is working well and seeing many hits. Please use the website to renew membership and pay dues.

President report Gary Huffman:

The 2004 President’s Award presented to Jeff Flippo and J.D. Mitchell for outstanding contributions to the organization.

New business:

Discussion from the floor on adding a VFPA representative to the State TRB.

Motion by David Diamantes to pursue legislation to make this change.
Second by Russ Acors. PASSED

Steve Shapiro from the ICC administered the oath of office to the new VFPA officers:

Mr. Shapiro presented the past president’s pin to Gary Huffman.

Jeff Flippo presented an award from the VFPA to Gary Huffman in recognition of his outstanding service to the organization over the past two years as president.
